my personalized soapbox
24.04.03 12:00 p.m.

I want a soapbox to stand up on. I know how the phrase originated. Although I'd much rather it be a podium. I want to be Emma- standing there uniting the workers.

The revolution is coming. The people will rise up and revolt against the oppression that has existed for so many ages. That feeling inside of malcontent-- that is not something that only you feel. Look around you, these are your brothers and sisters standing at your sides.

We have given peace a chance. We have walked in protest, we have held signs and chanted. We have done everything that is legal, and yet no one pays us any attention. You may be wondering why that is- why will the man in that big white house not listen when his country is coming to a stop?

Only he can tell you, but he will not come out. He has blockaded the walls and refuses to see you. You are like a machine that can be fixed with a repairman. That repairman is your union- he goes and meets behind closed doors and makes a deal. What say do we have in that deal? We have signed our contracts, our lives away when you first get a job.

Now, you are unionized, they tell you like it's a big step for mankind. That is not a step forward, it is a step backwards!

Workers of the world, we are here today to take a step forward. Do not enter your workplace today- stay outside and tell the world your story and the story of the people that have come before you. Years of reform and still we feel the same discontent that the girls in the factories felt at the turn of the century. Stand up for the children in sweatshops around the world, the ones without a voice, for the women that are forced to run around outside of the Nike factory until they collapse from heat exhaustion because their garb was not proper.

That is why we are here today- to take back what is ours.
